Report: Spurs still interested in Barcelona’s Brazilian midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur still retain an interest in Barcelona midfielder Lucas De Vega, according to Sport.

Tottenham were reported to have had an offer of around €4million (£3.4million) snubbed by the Catalan giants in 2019.

The Brazilian impressed for Barcelona’s B team last season with manager Sergi Barjuán said to consider 21-year-old as an important player in his plans for the campaign ahead.

Real Zaragoza and FC Cartagena were both keen to take him on a season-loan loan deal to give him the opportunity of regular first-team football but he will instead stay at Barcelona.

De Vega is out of contract at the Camp Nou next summer, however, Barcelona are reported to have the option to extend his deal further.

Spanish news outlet La Verdad claimed last August that it was De Vega’s ‘dream’ to join Tottenham and previously faced the North Londoners in a UEFA Youth League match back in 2018.

We often seem to get linked with highly-rated youngsters within the Barcelona ranks only for a move to fail to materialise, with Riqui Puig being one of the more recent examples ( CCMA).

While the club would be right to be moitoring up and current talent, the priority has to be on the painful rebuild of the first team which Mauricio Pochettino previously warned about.
