Report: Spurs still interested in Lucas Paqueta after West Ham rejection

The Daily Express have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta this summer, after West Ham United’s opening offer of £34m was turned down.

According to the update, intermediaries are working on behalf of the attacking midfielder to land him a Premier League move and there is said to be confidence in the player’s camp that the goal is achievable.

Paqueta’s agents are reportedly in London on standby as they look to broker a transfer. It is revealed that neither Arsenal nor Newcastle United are in the race for the player any longer.

The Express add that Spurs still retain interest in Paqueta, with Fabio Paratici alleged to be a fan of the midfielder.

It is explained that Tottenham are on the lookout for an attacker to replace Bryan Gil and the 24-year-old ticks a lot of boxes for the North London club.

However, the report states that the price would have to be right for Spurs to push ahead with a move for Paqueta.

As things stand, the Hammers are said to be in the driving seat for the Lyon star’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

Any attacking midfielder we sign is likely to get very few minutes over the course of the season as Conte has not shown a willingness to switch to a 3-5-2.

Some may believe that will change if the club bring in a player of Paqueta’s quality but I think that any number 8/number 10 we sign is likely to only be used as an impact substitute off the bench if we are chasing a game.
