Report: Spurs ‘studying’ Aston Villa star ahead of potential summer move

According to a report from The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a move for Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa in the summer.

A lot has been said about Tottenham’s issues in central defence at the moment, with Jose Mourinho seemingly yet to make up his mind on what his first-choice pairing is.

Perhaps, that was why a central defender was said to be at the top of Mourinho’s wish list during the January transfer window, but Spurs ended the window empty-handed.

The Athletic now claim that it remains an area the North Londoners will look to bolster in the next transfer window and Konsa is one of the options Tottenham are studying.

The report alleges that the Villa star was on Tottenham’s radar when Toby Alderweireld’s £25m release clause became active in the summer of 2019 before the Belgian ended up staying and subsequently penning a new deal at the club.

It is stated that Villa hope to hand a new contract to the 23-year-old, who is also attracting interest from Liverpool.

Spurs Web Opinion

Konsa has been one of the unsung heroes of Aston Villa’s impressive showing this season and with him being homegrown, I can certainly see why Tottenham are considering him as an option. However, on the back of his impressive performances this season, Villa would likely demand a substantial fee for the 23-year-old.
