Report: Spurs submit verbal offer of £21.9m for Bundesliga defender

Tottenham Hotspur have submitted a verbal offer of €25m (£21.9m) for Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapié, according to German news outlet Bild.

The report claims that Tottenham are keen to sign the central defender this month before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday evening in a bid to bolster their leaky defence.

Hincapie made the switch to Leverkusen at the age of 19 from South American club Talleres de Cordoba after impressing for Ecuador at the 2021 Copa America and is under contract with the Bundesliga club until the summer of 2026 (transfermarkt).

The 21-year-old has established himself as a regular for Leverkusen splitting his time on the pitch between centre-back and left-back.

The Sun have previously reported that the north Londoners have been told they must pay at least £34million if they wish to land the player.

If Tottenham can secure a move for Hincapie it would be a huge boost to the defensive options under Antonio Conte with Clement Lenglet’s loan deal not including an option to make the transfer permanent from Barcelona.

Hincapie is a talented player, who at times can be rash with his decision making but is something which he would greatly benefit from improving by working with the Spurs head coach.
