Report: Spurs suffer blow in pursuit of potential Hugo Lloris replacement

Tottenham have received a blow in their pursuit of Mike Maignan, with CalcioMercato now reporting that the goalkeeper is expected to sign a new contract at AC Milan.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported back in February that Maignan was one of four names at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Hugo Lloris, alongside Giorgi Mamardashvili, David Raya, Robert Sanchez.

This was subsequently backed up by Football Insider, who revealed on March 26 that the Milan star’s name had been proposed by Fabio Paratici.

However, CalcioMercato have now asserted that despite talks of the goalkeeper joining Tottenham, he remains committed to Milan.

The report claims that the Serie A club are now keen to tie Maignan to a new contract and are willing to offer him a pay rise on his current €2.8m (£2.4m) salary.

The 27-year-old’s entourage are allegedly keen to make sure their client is one of the highest-paid in the entire Rossoneri squad and it is asserted that the former Lille star is expected to put pen on paper ‘in the coming weeks’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Maignan would probably not be keen on a switch to Spurs, considering Milan look likely to qualify for next season’s Champions League while Tottenham look set to miss out.

Even the likes of David Raya might prove out of our reach in the summer if we fail to finish in the top four.
