Report: Spurs suffer blow in pursuit of Sampdoria defensive star

Tottenham Hotspur may have just suffered a huge blow in their pursuit of Sampdoria central defender Joachim Andersen this summer.

Spurs currently boast one of the very best central defensive partnerships in world football in the form of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

However, as it stands, both Belgian stars will leave North London come the end of next season and both are now past the 30-years-old mark.

As a result, Spurs may have to start planning ahead for life without Jan and Toby, with Joachim Andersen being tipped to replace the latter (Tuttomercatoweb).

Tuttomercatoweb state that Spurs were ready to pay £22m for the centre-back, with Arsenal also interested.

However, another party has now entered the race with a £27m bid for the defender. Lyon have also apparently agreed terms with Andersen over a potential move this summer (Football Insider).

What’s even worse is that Spurs’ recent £53.8m purchase of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon (BBC) may have even financed the move.
