Report: Spurs suffer transfer blow as midfield target closes in on move

Tottenham Hotspur appear to have missed out on his signature of Marseille’s Maxime Lopez.

Spanish news outlet La Razon claim that Lopez is now finalising a move to La Liga side Sevilla.

Lopez has reinvented himself after being moved into a deep-lying playmaker role by former Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas this season.

The Daily Star reported back in April that the midfielder, who only has a year to run on his deal, had been offered to Tottenham.

Estadio Deportivo claimed that Jose Mourinho was an admirer of the 22-year-old and had told the Spurs hierarchy to bring him to North London.

It was reported that the Lilywhites were battling it out with West Ham for Lopez’s signature.

However, La Razon now claim Sevilla have  agreed an €8million (£7.1milion) deal with Marseille.

Lopez is extremely similar in his playing style to both Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp. So I doubt we were in for him. What we need is an out and out ball winner in midfielders like Hojbjerg or Gerson.
