Report: Spurs summer target could be offered pay rise at current club

Portuguese publication, A Bola have claimed that rumoured Tottenham target, Joao Palhinha, could be in line for a pay rise at Sporting Lisbon.

Palhinha was alleged to be one of the central midfield options on Spurs’ radar during the summer, with the North Londoners reportedly having a loan offer for the midfielder turned down by Sporting.

Tottenham were backed to make another offer of around €20m (£17.1m) for the 26-year-old in the final days of the transfer window but nothing materialised before the window slammed shut.

The Portuguese international has started the campaign in excellent form for Sporting and has been getting rave reviews for his performances.

If A Bola are to be believed, Palhinha is set to be rewarded with a pay rise for his improved displays. It is alleged that the midfielder could see his weekly salary rise to somewhere in the region of £20,000.

However, the report adds that it is not yet clear whether Palhinha’s contract will be extended beyond 2025 and whether his release clause would be increased from its current value of €60m (£51m).

Spurs Web Opinion

I do believe we need another central midfielder in January but I have not seen enough of Palhinha to know whether he would be the answer to our problems. If we do not break the bank for a Kessie or Bissouma type of player in January, I cannot see us having any shot of finishing in the top four.
