Report: Rumoured Spurs summer target seeking January exit

According to a report by Italian news outlet Il Mattino, Elseid Hysaj is seeking an exit from Napoli in the January transfer window.

The Italian giants are said to be keen on bringing in Timothy Castagne from Atlanta and could, as a result, consider letting the 25-year-old right-back leave.

Hysaj has only made five appearances this season with all coming in the Serie A after suffering with injury (transfermarkt).

Spurs were linked with a move for the Albanian international in the summer after Juan Foyth sustained an ankle injury during the Audi Cup match against Bayern Munich in pre-season (Sky Sports).

Serge Aurier has established himself as first-choice under Jose Mourinho but Kyle Walker-Peters has failed to build on the early-season promise that he showed.

Mourinho indicated in the press conference on Friday that Foyth can play in the position but only in a different system which requires the right back to play a more defensive role (Football.London).

With Hysaj potentially available in January, it is suggested that Spurs might rekindle their interest in the Napoli defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Hysaj is a consistent defender, he offers very little going forward. So the likes of Eric Dier or Juan Foyth could do the same job at right back that he can. If the club are looking to sign a right back in January, then I believe it will be someone who is a naturally attacking full back like Youcef Atal.
