Report: Spurs table deal to defender who is out of contract this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have a trio of high profile players who are out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are all able to walk away from North London as free agents unless they put pen to paper on a new deal.

However, one player who is also nearing the end of his contract is highly rated academy player Japhet Tanganga with the defender having signed a new one-year deal in June (Spurs official).

The 20-year-old impressed during Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the far east and also against Real Madrid in the Audi Cup.

He was rewarded for his displays by continuing to be involved in first team training with Mauricio Pochettino’s side and made his competitive debut in the Carabao Cup defeat at Colchester United.

Football Insider are reporting that Mauricio Pochettino has given his blessing for the club to offer Tanganga a new deal to stop the centre half from leaving the club.

Opinion

With Alderweireld and Vertonghen looking as if they will quit the club in the summer, to also lose a 20-year-old as talented as Tanganga would be catastrophic considering that he would be seen as a likely successor to fill the void left by the Belgian pair.
