Report: Spurs target could be available on free transfer after no progress in contract talks

Marca have revealed that there is now a real possibility that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Sergio Ramos could be available on a free transfer this summer.

Ramos was rumoured to be one of the centre-halves on Tottenham’s radar during the January transfer window (Evening Standard).

Spurs ended the window empty-handed but Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that the club hope to sign two central defenders when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Previous reports from Spain had claimed that Ramos, whose current deal with Real Madrid runs out next month, had rejected a one-year extension offered by Los Blancos.

Marca now report that Madrid are not ready to offer the two-year extension that the World Cup winner is demanding.

It is revealed that the 34-year-old met with Florentino Perez over his contract and both parties are now open to parting ways in the summer.

Given the improved form of Eder Militao and Nacho, and the impending arrival of David Alaba, it is explained that Madrid are not under any pressure to hold on to their captain.

Spurs Web Opinion

The impact Thiago Silva has had at Chelsea suggests that the likes of Ramos and Boateng could prove valuable assets for Spurs, particularly given the lack of leaders in our backline.

The fact that they are available on free transfers could make them attractive options for the North Londoners under the current financial climate. However, now that Mourinho has departed, I believe we are much less likely to offer a longer contract for a player over 30.
