Report: Spurs target snapped up by club’s former Director of Recruitment

Monaco have now officially confirmed that they have sealed the signing of Ismail Jakobs, who was previously rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

The versatile Jakobs, who has played at left-back as well as further forward, has gone from strength to strength since breaking into FC Koln’s first team back in 2019.

The German Under-21 international penned a new contract with the Bundesliga club in March of last year but has now completed a move to Monaco for a deal rumoured to be worth around £5.5m.

It was previously reported that Spurs were keeping a close eye on the youngster’s development and could make a move for him.

However, Tottenham’s former head of recruitment, Paul Mitchell, who now serves as the sporting director of Monaco, has beaten his former club to the 21-year-old’s signature.

Mitchell expressed his delight at being able to win the race for the highly-rated young winger.

Speaking to Monaco’s official website, he said: “The signing of Ismail is part of this desire to add the types of players who can bring quality that will improve the squad while hewing to our organisational strategy to enhance AS Monaco’s future.

“Ismail is able to play in several positions and has shown a maturity in his performances that is well above his age in a very demanding league.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham’s recruitment has slowly but surely continued deteriorating since Mitchell left the club in 2016. That is why Levy’s decision to appoint Fabio Paratici was a long time coming. Let us hope the Italian is able to find us enough gems over the next few windows just as Mitchell did with the likes of Alli, Son and Alderweireld.
