Report: Spurs target with £55m release clause wants to leave club in the summer

Tottenham have been handed a major boost in their chase for RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano as the defender has decided to leave the club at the end of the season, according to a report by Sport Bild (via Metro).

Upamecano has been impressive for Leipzig over the past two seasons, establishing himself as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga.

Reports over the last few months indicate that rebuilding the Tottenham backline is Jose Mourinho’s priority in the summer (the Express).

Don Balon (as translated by TEAMtalk) claimed earlier this month that Upamecano was on the top of Mourinho’s wishlist as far as centre-backs were concerned. The 21-year-old has also been linked with a move to Chelsea (the Mirror).

The report by Sport Bild (via Metro) claims that the centre-back has made up his mind and wishes to leave the Red Bull Arena this summer, thus putting the likes of Spurs on alert.

It is suggested that the defender has a €60m release clause in his contract with Leipzig.

Spurs Web Opinion

Upamecano would be a fantastic addition as he could potentially be a mainstay in our defence for many years to come. However, the Frenchman is relatively inexperienced and I believe Jose will want to bring in an experienced campaigner to replace Vertonghen in the summer so that he can slot straight into our defence.
