Report: Spurs to make bid for £50m-rated midfielder next week

According to a report in A Bola, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are locked in a head to head battle for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

The report claims that Sporting rate Fernandes at around £50 million, and both Manchester United and Tottenham will be making their opening bids for the 24-year-old next week.

The report also suggests that both clubs have been tracking the Portuguese international from the start of the summer. It is claimed that while the Red Devils are the favourites to land him, Spurs are ready to swoop in as soon as Man Utd lower their guard.

It is also asserted that the bids that Tottenham and Man Utd are weighing up will be around the €50m-€55m mark, well short of the €70 that Sporting are said to be demanding.

The midfielder, who has been likened to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, scored a staggering 32 goals in all competitions from midfield last season (according to Transfermarket.com)

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham have been linked with Fernandes since the start of the window which does suggest that there is some interest there. However, it is likely the case that the Portuguese international is a backup the club have identified in case they fail to land Giovani Lo Celso.
