Report: Spurs to make decision on summer signing who has gone backwards with form

Pape Matar Sarr became Tottenham Hotspur’s fourth signing of the Fabio Paratici era last summer when he joined from Metz and as part of the deal remained with the Ligue 1 side for the rest of the season.

The Evening Standard described the 19-year-old in August as one of Europe’s hottest properties having also said to have been on the radar of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Sarr had been at Metz for less than a year when Spurs swooped when he joined the French outfit on a five-year deal from feeder club Generation Foot in September 2020 (The Sun).

Sunday’s print edition of L’Equipe named the Senegalese international as one of Metz’ ‘harmless gang’ given their sub-standard performances and has not been able to rediscover the form which he displayed last season that earned him a move to the Premier League club.

It is said that it will soon be time for a decision to be made whether Sarr will arrive at Tottenham this summer and be part of Antonio Conte’s squad, or whether another season on loan would be of greater benefit.

Antonio Conte warned soon after joining Tottenham that the club had made mistakes in the transfer window which cannot be repeated in the future with Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil all arriving for sizeable transfer fees and having failed to make their impact in England and found themselves shipped out on loan (Mirror).

Sarr could also fall into the above bracket, especially with Rodrigo Bentancur and Oliver Skipp looking most like Conte’s first choice central midfield pairing.
