Report: Spurs to make one final attempt to sign Spanish international ahead of window closing

Tottenham Hotspur are set to make one final attempt to persuade Sporting CP to part with Pedro Porro, according to Portuguese news outlet Record.

The right-wing back has been one of Tottenham’s main targets during the January transfer window and the north Londoners are even said to have offered Sporting the choice of Emerson Royal, Japhet Tanganga or Bryan Gil as a makeweight in a player-plus-cash transfer, only for the Primeria Liga outfit to snub the idea (The Times).

Sporting have been sticking to their demands of only sanctioning a transfer if Porro’s release clause of £40 million is finally met (Guardian).

Tottenham could now be set to face competition from La Liga champions Real Madrid, who are also reported to be keen on the former Manchester City player.

Antonio Conte’s side have had significant defensive issues this season after the Italian admitted his side are showing relegation form after they conceded four second half goals at Manchester City on Thursday night, despite leading the match 2-0 at half time (Daily Mail).

It is typical of Tottenham to try to drag out transfer negotiations and ‘spin the plates of many potential deals’ in order to force the hand of the club, however, this strategy never always works. Spurs fans have seen their two biggest rivals in Chelsea and Arsenal being heavily active in the window, while those in the white half of north London are still waiting for Daniel Levy to find his cheque book.
