Report: Spurs to rival Arsenal for Brazilian after securing Champions League place

The Telegraph have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to rival Arsenal for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus after sealing Champions League qualification on Sunday.

Jesus’ agent Marcelo Pettinati confirmed earlier this month that he has had talks with Arsenal but added that as many as six other clubs have shown interest in his client (Guardian).

The Telegraph have now revealed that Pettinati is aware of Tottenham’s interest in the Brazilian forward.

It is explained that Antonio Conte wants to strengthen his squad to cope with the demands of Champions League football, and Jesus, who can play out wide or as a number nine, is a player that the Italian has identified as a target.

The City star reportedly wants to leave the Etihad this summer in order to get regular football under his belt.

The report claims that Mikel Arteta is keen on reuniting with the 25-year-old, who he worked with when he was an assistant coach at the Etihad.

However, it is suggested that failing to qualify for the Champions League could have an impact on the Gunners’ pursuit of Jesus.

Spurs Web Opinion

Jesus will be the perfect forward for Conte and Spurs, given that he can play across the front three and has Premier League experience under his belt.

While we would be able to offer the 25-year-old Champions League football, Arsenal can assure him that he will be their main man upfront, which the Brazilian will not be at Spurs.

In addition, his relationship with Arteta might give the Gunners the upper hand. However, I certainly expect Spurs to try their hardest to beat the Gunners to the City star.
