Report: Spurs to rival Manchester United for Ajax ace – Bergwijn a possible makeweight

Manchester United are facing competition from Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Ajax winger Antony, according to The Independent‘s Miguel Delaney.

It has been reported in Delaney’s latest newsletter for the newspaper that Tottenham are willing to offer Steven Bergwijn to the Dutch giants as a replacement for the 22-year-old.

Bergwijn has already made his intentions clear to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer having stated his intention to get regular first-team football (Algemeen Dagblad).

The Dutch international has found himself behind the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura and Dejan Kulusevski in Antonio Conte’s pecking order, with the vast majority of his minutes coming off the bench (transfermarkt).

Sky Sports claimed earlier this week that new Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has made his new employer make initial contact with his former club over a possible deal for Antony.

SpursWeb Opinion

Antony is one of the brightest young talents in Europe and such is their desire to sign Steven Bergwijn, it could give Spurs the upper hand over Manchester United in order to land the player.

The Brazilian is likely to be worth considerably more than Bergwijn, however, there is no doubt Paratici and Levy will be driving a hard bargain, or worst case, causing United to pay more than they may have expected.
