Report: Spurs and Liverpool to watch 23-year-old this weekend

Tottenham’s scouts will fly to Turkey over the weekend to watch Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir in action against Besiktas, according to reports.

Cakir has been impressive form this season and has been one of the main reasons behind Trabzonspor’s table topping efforts.

Cakir has conceded just 21 goals in 21 games this season, the second-fewest in the league (BBC), and will be hoping he can guide the club to the league title at the end of the season.

According to a report by Turkish news outlet Fotospor, the 23-year-old’s form this season has attracted interest from several clubs including Spurs and Liverpool, both of whom will send scouts this weekend to run the rule over him.

It is suggested that Lazio may also send representatives to watch the goalkeeper in action against Besiktas on Saturday.

Hugo Lloris has been in fine form for Spurs in between the sticks after his return from injury while the Frenchman’s understudy Paulo Gazzaniga has also stepped up to the plate when required this season.

With Hugo and Gazzaniga pretty much having the first and second choice positions sealed owing to their recent performances, I am guessing we are probably in the market for a third choice keeper in the summer when Michel Vorm’s contract expires.

It would make sense to go for someone young like Cakir who can learn from the likes of Hugo and develop into a top keeper in a few years.
