Report: Spurs told potential summer recruits they plan to usurp Man City

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur want to usurp Manchester City and Liverpool over the next two or three years and revealed their ambition to do so to potential new recruits in the summer.

Some Spurs fans were perhaps dreaming of a potential title this season after the Lilywhites were level on points with Manchester City after their first ten matches.

However, the performance and result against Manchester United on Wednesday has deflated the fan base and seems to have had a similar effect on Antonio Conte.

The Spurs boss has said following the 2-0 defeat to Old Trafford that his side still have a long way to go to compete with the ‘monsters’ of the Premier League (Football.London).

He explained that the Lilywhites have just started a new process and that it will take time before they can compete for the title.

According to Thomas, there is certainly ambition within the club that they can win the Premier League title in the next two to three years.

He explained that some at Spurs believe that both City and Liverpool, who have dominated English football over the last five years, could go through a period of transition.

Conte is certainly not a manager who would stick around at Tottenham if the club have no plans of eventually winning the title. So, the Italian would have held talks with the Spurs hierarchy on how to do so, and if he does sign a new contract, that would indicate that he is on the same page as Levy and Paratici.
