Report: Spurs told they must pay at least £34m for Bundesliga defender

Tottenham Hotspur have been told they must pay at least £34million if they want to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, according to The Sun.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte wants to recruit a left-sided central defender to follow Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma through the door at the north London outfit ahead of the new campaign.

The Italian was reported to have been keen to have raided his former side, Inter Milan to sign Alessandro Bastoni, however, any prospect of a deal has fallen through with the defender keen to remain at the San Siro.

Hincapie has had an impressive first season at Leverkusen last summer on a five-year deal from CA Talleres in the Argentine first division.

The 20-year-old has also played a key role in helping Ecuador to qualify for this winter’s World Cup finals with Leverkusen bracing themselves for a number of offers.

Leverkusen can also offer Hincapie Champions League football having finished third in the Bundesliga last season, however, the lure of playing in the Premier League is likely to turn the head of any player.

It is not surprising to hear Spurs have been linked with Hincapie given Fabio Paratici’s spiderweb-like approach to new signings with Bastoni, Botman and Bremer also having been heavily linked.
