Report: Spurs tracking 20-year-old rising German starlet

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping an eye on the progress of German starlet Ismail Jakobs, according to the Daily Mail.

Jakobs only broke into the Cologne team in November but has been a regular in the side for the past few months. His displays earned him the Bundesliga’s rookie of the month title for the month of December.

The 20-year-old, who is said to be comfortable both at left-back as well as the left-hand side of midfield, has netted two goals in nine league appearances for Cologne so far (transfermarkt).

Tottenham are reported to be in the market for a left-back in the summer with Jose Mourinho said to be keen on rebuilding the backline (the Express).

If Spurs are planning to bid for Jakobs in the summer, they might face some heavy competition with Roma and Leicester City, who are also reportedly following his progress.

Spurs Web Opinion

Jakobs is likely one of just several prospects we are likely tracking at the moment. It certainly doesn’t mean that a bid is incoming. Besides, he sounds to be a player of a very similar profile to that of Ryan Sessegnon, rather than out an out left-back which is what we need.
