Report: Spurs tracking international goalkeeper

According to a report in Turkish publication, 61 Saat Tottenham Hotspur are showing an interest in signing Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.

The 23-year-old established himself as Trabzonspor’s first choice goalkeeper at the beginning of the year and his performances for the club since then have seen him build a great reputation not just in Turkey but across Europe.

Cakir, who broke into the Turkish national team a few months ago, recently extended his contract with Trabzonspor but that isn’t discouraging Premier League sides from pursuing the youngster.

Apart from the Lilywhites, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Arsenal are also said to be tracking Cakir’s progress, with all four clubs reportedly sending scouts to watch him in action this season.

With Hugo Lloris dislocating his elbow after a nasty landing in the early minutes of the game against Brighton last Saturday, Spurs might be tempted to bring in another keeper in January in order to insure themselves in the event that Paulo Gazzaniga also picks up an injury.

With Tottenham opting not to extend Michel Vorm’s contract, there was always a risk of being left short in the position in case of an injury. With Alfie Whiteman still inexperienced at the top level, Spurs could certainly do with another goalkeeper particularly if Lloris takes longer to recover from his injury than anticipated.
