Report: Spurs transfer target has ‘potentially quite serious’ knee issue

Antonio Nusa’s proposed move to Brentford now looks to be off after the Norwegian failed his medical with the Premier League club, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The 18-year-old was the subject of interest from Tottenham who had held talks with Club Brugge over a transfer this month which would have seen Nusa remain with the Belgian side on loan for the rest of the 2023/24 campaign.

Jacobs has taken to social media platform X to reveal that during the medical with Brentford, knee and back issues were identified during the examination with Nusa’s knee problem understood to be serious.

He wrote: “Brentford’s deal for Antonio Nusa is now almost certainly off. Reason is due to knee and back issues during the medical. It’s understood the knee issue is potentially quite serious.”

Have Spurs had a lucky escape with failed Antonio Nusa deal?

The news of a failed medical were also backed up by fellow journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who has reported on X that Nusa has a piece of loose cartilage in his knee, while his back problem is persistent and needs to be managed.

With Brentford having been ready to pay a £25m fee (Sky Sports) to move ahead of Tottenham to land Nusa from under their noses, it now looks as if the North Londoners have had something of a lucky escape.

Given the injury issues which Ange Postecoglou has had to contend with this season, signing another player who has the potential to spend more time on the treatment table would have been disastrous.
