Report: Spurs transfer target tells current club that he wants to leave

Bruno Fernandes’ agent has today met with Sporting Lisbon club officials to inform them that he wants to leave the club and join Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Portuguese news outlet O Jogo, a meeting was held at Sporting’s training complex in Alcochete where his agent outlined the midfielder’s wishes to Sporting director Hugo Viana.

Fernandes was present in training with his Sporting team-mates earlier today and has previously spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League (Standard).

Tottenham officials are reported to have held talks in Portugal yesterday over a possible deal to bring the prolific midfielder to North London (Sky Sports).

Manchester United have also been heavily linked with a move for the Portugal international throughout the summer but a move has failed to materialise (Express).

Fernandes caught the eye having scored 23 times from midfield for club and country last season and is being considered as a potential alternative target to Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso (The Mirror).

Opinion

It would be hardly surprising that Fernandes has told his club that he wants to leave given his previous comments about his desire to play in England. Whether Spurs can negotiate a deal is something that we will just have to wait and see.
