Report: Spurs tried to sign £33.7m attacker in January – Now Roma are interested

According to Super Deporte, AS Roma are set to step up their interest in Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes, who was previously reported to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Guedes was linked with a move to Tottenham during last summer’s transfer window (Domingo Ortiz) but he ended up staying put at the Mestalla.

The 25-year-old has had an impressive campaign so far, having played across the front three for Los Che and amassed 13 goals and five assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Super Deporte have now revealed that Spurs made an enquiry to Valencia about Guedes in January but the North London club’s interest never materialised into a concrete offer.

The report states that Jose Mourinho is keen to take the Portuguese international to Roma, with the former Tottenham boss wanting to pair him with Tammy Abraham upfront.

The Serie A club are expected to enter into negotiations with Valencia over the next few weeks, with Jose Bordalas’ side said to value Guedes at €40m (£33.7m).

While Guedes is not going to strengthen Tottenham’s starting eleven, his versatility would make him a decent squad option for Antonio Conte to have at his disposal. However, the Portuguese forward might prefer a move to the Stadio Olympico, where he would get a lot more game time.
