Report: Spurs turn attention to 31-year-old after being defeated in Skriniar race

Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to turn their attention to Stefan De Vrij after admitting defeat in their pursuit of Milan Skriniar.

Both De Vrij and Skriniar were fixtures in Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan side that won the Scudetto in 2020-21 and both players have been mooted as targets for Spurs over recent months (Lyall Thomas – Last Word On Spurs YouTube channel).

Football Insider now explain that the Lilywhites wanted to sign Skriniar but have been ‘blown out of the water’ by Paris Saint-Germain.

The French club are said to be putting the final touches to a deal to sign the Slovak as a free agent in the summer, with the report claiming that the Parisians’ contract offer to the 28-year-old ‘far outstripped’ the salary Spurs were willing to offer him.

The report asserts that the Premier League club are now set to turn their attention to Skriniar’s teammate, De Vrij, who will also be a free agent in June if he does not sign a new deal with the Nerazzurri over the coming months.

The publication asserts that Conte has already spoken to the Dutchman regarding a potential switch to Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Conte’s future at Tottenham looking far from certain, it is a little premature to be discussing summer targets at the moment.

I doubt that the Spurs hierarchy would consider signing someone of De Vrij’s profile if Conte is no longer at the club.
