Report: Spurs turned down in attempts to sign Dembele replacement

A report from Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Spurs made an approach for Torino’s Soualiho Meite this transfer window, but their interest was brushed away by the club (as reported by TeamTalk).

Torino said they were not willing to listen to any offers for the player at this moment.

The French midfielder only joined Torino from Monaco last summer, but has already featured 18 times this season, grabbing a goal and two assists in that time.

Spurs will surely be on the lookout for a Dembele replacement in the next six months or so, after the Belgian midfielder was sold to a Chinese club earlier in this window.

Pochettino now looks unlikely to be able to pull off any signings on deadline day, but central midfield could be a target for improvement in the summer.

Tottenham may try their luck again for the Torino man come the end of the season, if Poch is given money to spend.
