Report: Spurs U21 side discover opponents in Papa John’s Trophy

Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-21s have learned who they will be facing in the Papa John’s Trophy as the draw for the competition happened on Thursday afternoon.

According to Football.London, 16 invited Under-21 teams will be placed into their respective Northern and Southern section groups, with the 48 EFL Clubs placed into pre-determined groups prior to the draw.

It is revealed that, during the draw, consideration was given to the proximity of the clubs in order to reduce time travel and maximise recovery time.

It is explained that all the EFL clubs will play two out of their three group matches at home in the competition.

Tottenham U21s have been drawn in Group H of the Southern Division, along with Oxford, Cambridge and Stevenage.

Sunderland are the current holders of the competition, beating Tranmere Rovers 1–0 in the 2021 final while Bristol City are the most successful side in the competition, having won it in 1986, 2003 and 2015.

Spurs Web Opinion:

It will be good for the U21 side to get some minutes in an actual competitive knockout tournament. How embarrassing it would be if the U21 side won a trophy before the senior side though.
