Report: Spurs unwilling to meet club’s €35m valuation of defender

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in bringing Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo to North London in the summer but are refusing to meet the Primeira Liga oufit’s asking price for the defender, according to the latest reports from Portugal.

Left-back is one of the positions where Tottenham are said to be looking for new additions when the transfer market opens in the summer (Football.London)

A Bola reported back in December that Spurs sent their scouts to Portugal to watch Grimaldo in action.

The 24-year-old, who is primarily known for his ability to get forward and create chances, has had an impressive season for the Eagles registering eight assists in all competitions this campaign (transfermarkt).

Record (as relayed by Sports Mole) claim that although the Lilywhites are interested in signing the Spaniard, they have no intention of meeting Benfica’s €35 million asking price.

Napoli are also said to be interested in the defender but it is claimed that they also have let Benfica know that they prepared to meet their valuation.

Grimaldo would be a great replacement for Danny Rose as he can be a constant threat bombing forward down the left-hand side. With Davies being a more defensive option, we could use someone like the Spaniard in the squad to help create width, especially in home games where opposition teams sit back with a low block.
