According to the print edition of Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham’s willingness to offer a bigger fee to Lucas Bergvall’s agent was a decisive factor in the Premier League side winning the race for the youngster.
Spurs secured a massive coup on transfer deadline day, with Bergvall widely considered to be one of the best-emerging players in Swedish football.
The technically gifted box-to-box midfielder has had a meteoric rise over the last six months, going from playing in the Swedish second tier to being capped for their national side last month.
Multiple reasons have been provided over the last 24 hours for why Tottenham were able to beat Barcelona to the 18-year-old’s services.
Fabrizio Romano stated on Thursday that Dejan Kulusevski spoke to the youngster and convinced him about the merit of Ange Postecoglou’s project.
Relevo journalist Matteo Moretto suggested that Tottenham were willing to offer more money and promised the teenager that he would go straight into their first-team.

Agent fees prove decisive in Bergvall to Spurs deal
Sport have now provided another reason why Tottenham were able to see off competition from Barcelona to land Bergvall on deadline day.
They say that the Catalan club were confident of winning the race for the player, having overcome competition from Germany and Italy, but Tottenham’s late entry ruined their plans.
It is said that the player was attracted by the ‘young and remodelled project’ under Postecoglou and they add that the ‘commission allocated to agents has ended up biasing’ the player’s will.

While Barcelona’s pull is obviously huge, the project that is underway at Tottenham is undoubtedly hugely exciting for any young player who is looking to break through at the highest level of the game.
Bergvall would have seen the rise of the likes of Pape Sarr and Destiny Udogie under Postecoglou and concluded that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was the right environment for him to fulfil his potential.
