Report: Spurs very close to reaching new contract deal with first-team star

Journalist Ekrem Konur and Fichajes.net have reported that Tottenham Hotspur want to agree a new two-year contract with club captain Hugo Lloris.

In fact, the Fichajes report goes as far as to say that Spurs are very close to agreeing that new deal with the Frenchman.

Tottenham reportedly still see Lloris as one of the most important members of the squad and want to retain his services for the coming years.

The 34-year-old’s current contract runs out at the end of the season, meaning he could leave on a free transfer in the summer. However, it is said his future may be secured in North London within the next few days.

The goalkeeper is now into his tenth season with the Lilywhites and has worn the captain’s armband for much of that time, racking up over 370 appearances.

Lloris has arguably been playing some of his best football over the past two seasons and, if the latest reports are to be believed, Spurs fans may be able to watch him for another two years.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This is wonderful news for Tottenham. No matter his age, Lloris is still at his peak as he has shown no signs of slowing down. In fact, he seems to be getting better and better with each passing season. I would love to see a new contract.
