Report: Spurs want 20-year-old Roma star but Mourinho wants him to stay

CalcioMercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur hold a keen interest in AS Roma winger Nicolo Zalewski but the Serie A club do not wish to let the player leave.

Since making his senior debut for Roma in May of 2021, Zalewski has caught the eye of many observers with his displays.

The versatile wide man, who can play as a wing-back as well as further forward, was a bit-part player for Jose Mourinho’s men last season but he has already made six Serie A appearances so far this campaign (Transfermarkt).

The print edition of Corriere Dello Sport (02/08/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) claimed back in August that Tottenham had enquired about the 20-year-old’s availability.

The report added that Antonio Conte is a big fan of the winger and alleged that Spurs have already made contact with the player’s entourage.

CalcioMercato have now backed up Tottenham’s interest in Zalewski, stating that the Lilywhites have had their eye on the Poland international for ‘some time’.

However, the report explains that Jose Mourinho has no intention of letting the youngster leave for the time being.

It is asserted that Paris Saint-Germain also requested information about Zalewski during the summer but Roma are said to be keen on tying the player down to a new contract as they realise they have someone ‘precious’ on their hands.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fabio Paratici will certainly be keeping a close eye on the best young talent in Serie A, given his expertise in the Italian market. So, there might be truth to reports of Tottenham’s interest in Zalewski.

Perhaps, the North London club think that Roma can be tempted into selling the youngster for the right amount, given their cashflow issues.
