Report: Spurs want £60m-rated La Liga striker

According to a report in the Sun, Tottenham are interested in signing Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose to replace the injured Harry Kane.

Spurs have been linked with several strikers from across Europe since Kane went down with a hamstring injury on New Year’s Day (Daily Star) but Jose Mourinho has insisted that the club will only be looking at options for the long-term rather than short-term fixes (Football.London).

The Sun claims that the Lilywhites have now shifted their attention to Jose, who has been in fantastic form for Sociedad this season. The Brazilian international, who has struck eight times in La Liga this season (transfermarkt), reportedly has a release clause of £60 million.

Spanish newspaper El Diario Vasco assert that Sociedad are not keen on letting the 28-year-old leave and are demanding that Spurs pay his full release clause.

It is suggested that the Spurs are reluctant to pay the requested £60 million and so a deal is unlikely to go through unless Sociedad reduce their asking price.

Spurs Web Opinion

William Jose is an extremely interesting player and I believe he perfectly suits what we need. While he isn’t a prolific goalscorer, he is quite brilliant in the air and is adept at laying the ball off for midfielders with his first touch. I believe he will be a valuable option to have even when Kane comes back but I don’t think he is worth anywhere near the reported £60 million.
