Report: Spurs want Ange to start work immediately for ‘huge’ window and Harry Kane talks

The Evening Standard have revealed that one of Ange Postecoglou’s first priorities as Tottenham’s head coach will be to hold discussions with Harry Kane about his future.

Reports over recent hours have indicated that it is only a matter of time before Postecoglou takes over as Spurs’ next manager, with Football Insider claiming this morning that the 57-year-old has already said ‘yes’.

The report added that the North London club would only need to pay small compensation to Celtic due to the nature of the Australian’s 12-month rolling contract, with Tottenham expected to announce the appointment this week.

The same information has now been backed up by The Evening Standard, who state that agreeing to personal terms with Postecoglou is ‘expected to be a formality’ for the Lilywhites.

The publication adds that Tottenham want the Celtic boss to start work at N17 immediately ahead of a ‘huge’ summer transfer window with the Premier League side facing their fist campaign without European football in over a decade.

The report suggests that amid Real Madrid‘s interest in snapping up Kane, Postecoglou is likely to prioritise discussions with the England captain to sort out his future.

Madrid confirmed yesterday that their current number nine Karim Benzema is departing the club after 14 years with Harry Kane said to be topping their list as their replacement for the French international (BBC).

Kane has himself repeatedly spoken about the club needing to return to the ethos they had under Mauricio Pochettino and one can argue that Ange Postecoglou will be appointed with that idea in mind.

The Australian is also clearly an excellent communicator. So, even though he might not be as big a name as Antonio Conte or Jose Mourinho, one should not underestimate his chances of convincing Kane to stay.
