Report: Spurs want to ‘at least try’ to sign £53m-rated star in January

Gazzetta dello Sport have now revealed that Tottenham Hotspur want to ‘at least try’ to see if they can get a deal for Denzel Dumfries over the line since Inter Milan are now willing to sell the right back.

Multiple publications (Daily Star and The Athletic) have suggested over the past week that Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Porro is Tottenham’s top right wing-back target in January.

This has now been backed up by Gazzetta, who state that Spurs have ‘already moved’ to sign Porro. However, the publication adds that both Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici also like ‘Dumfries a lot’.

The North London club want to try to see if a deal for the Netherlands international would be possible this month but is explained that Inter would only start negotiating if they receive an offer of €60m (£52.7m) for the player.

The report adds that Chelsea are also keen on Dumfries, with the West London club said to view him as ‘the perfect alternative’ to Reece James.

Manchester United are also said have expressed an interest in the Inter star, with Erik Ten Hag wanting to add an alternative to Diogo Dalot.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am personally not convinced that Dumfries would be much of an upgrade on Matt Doherty as the Dutchman’s crossing leaves a lot to be desired on occasions. It makes complete sense for Spurs to pursue Porro rather than get involved in a bidding war with Man Utd and Chelsea for the Inter star.
