Report: Spurs want to secure key signing before start of pre-season

The Sun have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to complete a deal for Conor Gallagher early in the transfer window so that the midfielder could have a full pre-season with the club.

Two weeks ago, The Times suggested that amidst interest from Spurs and West Ham, Chelsea have decided they would sell Gallagher before June 30 as they needed to raise over £100m by that date to ensure they do not breach the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The same information has now been backed up by The Sun, who say that Chelsea would have no choice but to sell the academy graduate as the fee from his sale will go down as pure profits in their account.

Tottenham want early deal for Conor Gallagher

The report reveals that Gallagher has been a long-term target for Spurs, who want to take advantage of Chelsea’s financial pressures to push through an early deal.

It is explained that Ange Postecoglou wants most of the club’s business done early in the window and the Tottenham head coach sees the England international as a ‘great fit’ for his system.

The publication adds that even though Mauricio Pochettino would like to keep hold of Gallagher, Chelsea are planning to offload the midfielder and would demand ‘at least £40m’ for his services.

Whether Tottenham are successful or not in their pursuit of Gallagher, we know for sure that the midfielder’s future will be resolved before the end of June, due to Chelsea’s financial pressures.

The same thing is also true of another Spurs target, Morgan Gibbs-White, with Forest also in a similar situation to the Blues.
