Report: Spurs want to sign Liverpool player but fear injury may end their chances

According to The Daily Mail – (26/12, page 64), Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Joe Gomez but they now fear that Liverpool will not want to let the player leave due to their injury crisis.

Spurs have been linked with a whole host of centre-backs over the last couple of months, and Gomez is now the latest name to be added to that list.

The Mail say that the 27-year-old is seen as an ideal option by the North London club owing to his pace, Premier League experience, homegrown status and versatility.

The report states that Spurs are of the opinion that the Catford-born defender would be open to a move back down to London.

Tottenham are interested in Joe Gomez

However, it is explained that the Lilywhites now fear that the latest collarbone injury sustained by Kostas Tsimikas against Arsenal could persuade the Reds to block the England international’s sale next month.

With the Greek international joining Andrew Robertson and Joel Matip on the treatment table, it is suggested that Jurgen Klopp would have to rely on Gomez over the coming weeks, which is why Tottenham might have to look elsewhere.

Gomez would undoubtedly be an excellent fit for Postecoglou’s backline but Liverpool are unlikely to entertain any offers for the 27-year-old mid-season. This is a deal that Tottenham can potentially revisit next summer.
