Report: Spurs want to sign new player to provide competition to first-team star

The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham want to bring in a striker this month to compete with Harry Kane for a place in the starting eleven.

After a slow start to the season, Kane’s form has improved since Conte’s arrival at the club, with the striker finding the back of the net in three of Tottenham’s last four Premier League matches.

The Athletic revealed last month that the England captain is enjoying working with Conte and that Spurs could offer him a new deal if the club continues to progress under the Italian.

With the transfer market now open, the Tottenham head coach has his first opportunity to address some of the weaknesses in his squad.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed last week that Conte wants to bring in a striker, a left-sided centre-back and a right-wing back to the club this month.

The Mail have now backed up the claim that those are the three positions that Spurs will look to strengthen this month.

However, they suggest that the Lilywhites are not just looking for a forward to serve as Kane’s backup but want a new striker to compete with the 28-year-old for a place in the side.

Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic is named as one of the options Tottenham have their eye on.

Realistically speaking, Tottenham are not going to be able to sign a striker good enough to compete with Kane. I suspect Conte would want a versatile forward who can cover for Kane as a number nine but would also be able to play across the front three.
