Report: Spurs weigh up multi-million pound stadium improvement

Tottenham Hotspur are currently weighing up a multi-million-pound upgrade of their retractable playing surface, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that the north Londoners have been alerted to technological improvements since the original pitch was installed in 2019 which would allow the club to have more flexibility in staging other events.

Tottenham’s real grass Premier League pitch splits into three sections before rolling it away into a storage area beneath the South Stand. The 10,000-tonne pitch takes just 25 minutes to retract.

Almost two metres beneath the grass pitch is an artificial playing surface, which has been used for the American Football matches, with the second of this season’s NFL doubleheader to take place in N17 tomorrow when the Packers and Giants meet.

A club spokesperson told the Daily Mail: “We are constantly improving our facilities and evolving our stadium to maintain our position as the best in the world.”

The stadium has also hosted a number of other events including music concerts and rugby matches to the benefit of the club’s coffers.
