Report: Spurs weighing up move for out-of-contract Premier League keeper

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster this summer.

Spurs are expected to be in the market for a goalkeeper this summer, with previous reports indicating that the North Londoners are not expected to take up the option to sign Pierluigi Gollini permanently (Goal).

Multiple sources over recent weeks (Alasdair Gold and The Sun) have reported that Tottenham are confident of securing the services of Sam Johnstone, whose contract with West Brom runs out this summer.

However, The Athletic revealed a few days ago that West Ham United have now moved into pole position to sign the Baggies star.

If talkSPORT’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs might now shift their attentions to Forster.

The report explains that the England international is out of contract this summer and the Saints do not plan on offering him a new deal as they wish to replace the 34-year-old with a younger goalkeeper.

It is alleged that Antonio Conte’s men are ‘ready to pounce’ on Forster and snap up the 6ft 7inch goalkeeper as Hugo Lloris’ understudy.

Given that Tottenham are already close to the limit of total foreign players, the club will want to ensure that the number two that they bring in is homegrown.

Forster, like Johnstone, is not only homegrown but also available on a free transfer. So, one can understand why the 34-year-old would be on Tottenham’s wishlist.

The Saints goalkeeper is also more likely to be content with being Lloris’ understudy than Johnstone, who might want to join a club where he would be the number one.
