Report: Spurs will have to break transfer record to sign defensive target

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a fantastic season so far, already finishing in the top four of the Premier League and qualifying for a Champions League final.

However, the right-back position has been somewhat of a sticking point for Pochettino this campaign, as the likes of Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier have been hit with injury problems and poor form.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for Crystal Palace wonderkid Aaron Wan-Bissaka, after the 21-year-old enjoyed a sensational breakthrough season in the Prem (Sun).

Tottenham’s current transfer record came in the form of defender Davinson Sanchez, as Spurs bought him for around £40m from Ajax in 2017 (SkySports).

However, if Spurs want to bring Wan-Bissaka in this season, it looks as if they will have to name a new defender as their record transfer, with the Daily Mail claiming Crystal Palace want £60m for the in-form right-back.

Spurs Web Opinion:

£60m is certainly a huge sum for a player who has only enjoyed one season at the top of English football. I would be hesitant paying that much for Wan-Bissaka, but I do see him as the best current choice for Spurs. I would hope that Man United drop interest in the player, and Spurs are able to drive Palace down to £45m or £50m. Perhaps Spurs could even offer a player going the other way to sweeten the deal.
