Report: Spurs will likely hold ‘the strongest interest’ in 23-year-old PL star

Yahoo Sport have claimed that Leeds United are looking at a potential replacement for Illan Meslier amidst Tottenham’s interest in their number one.

Meslier was first mooted as a target for Spurs back in November of last year, with journalist Phil Hay revealing on The Athletic’s Phil Hay Show at the time that the Lilywhites were contemplating a move for the Leeds star.

The speculation over the Frenchman’s future has since died down but with Leeds now in serious danger of relegation, the goalkeeper might be on his way out of Elland Road sooner rather than later.

Yahoo Sport reveal that Spurs, Chelsea and Barcelona have all expressed interest in snapping up Meslier this summer.

They assert that ‘the strongest interest’ is likely to come from Tottenham, who have identified the 23-year-old as a potential successor for Hugo Lloris.

It is explained that Leeds are now eyeing Sevilla keeper Yassine Bounou as a possible replacement for Meslier if he leaves this summer, with the Moroccan international thought to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

Spurs Web Opinion

While I would have certainly been in support of pursuing Meslier around 12 months ago, the Leeds number one has not been in the best of form this season, and there are question marks over whether he would be able to cope with the pressure of playing for Spurs.

There are much better alternatives in the Premier League for Tottenham to pursue this summer, with David Raya being the most obvious choice, given his contract situation.
