Report: Spurs will make last-ditch attempt to ambush Man Utd deal

According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham will make a last-ditch attempt to sign Sunderland starlet Joe Hugill, who is said to be close to completing a move to Manchester United.

Hugill is yet to make his senior debut for Sunderland’s first-team, but his performances for the Black Cats academy this season have resulted in attention from further up the footballing pyramid.

The Sun reported back in March that Spurs were leading the race for the 16-year-old after scout Ian Broomfield gave the green light for the club to make a move for the forward after watching him in action.

However, the same publication reported earlier this week that Manchester United had stolen a march on Tottenham in their pursuit of Hugill after Spurs’ move was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was suggested that a deal to take the young striker to Old Trafford was set to be wrapped up soon.

However, Football Insider have revealed that Spurs have not given up hope of landing Hugill despite having already agreed terms with Manchester United.

It is said that the Lilywhites will make one last attempt but that they are unlikely to be able to make any headway as the striker has already set his heart on a move to the former Premier League champions.

This report certainly isn’t optimistic about Tottenham’s chances of signing Hugill. Reading between the lines, it looks like the deal to take him to Manchester United is now all but complete.
