Report: Spurs will move for La Liga winner if Conte leaves next summer

CMW.it have claimed that Tottenham are expected to make a move for Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone if Antonio Conte leaves the club at the end of the season.

Tottenham are expected to begin talks over a new contract with Conte next month (Football.London) but there have been mixed reports regarding the Italian’s future in North London over recent days.

The Athletic reported a few days ago that the Spurs hierarchy are confident the 53-year-old will commit his future to the club but David Ornstein has told NBC Sports that Conte is likely to wait until the end of the season to make a decision on his future.

Meanwhile, Italian publications continue to link the Tottenham head coach with a sensational return to Juventus at the end of the season (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness).

CMW.it have now become the latest publication to report on that matter, claiming that Conte could swap North London for Turin next summer.

The report states that the Old Lady have identified the Italian as the man to rebuild a project that is described as being ‘in pieces’ under Massimiliano Allegri.

CMW.it assert that the Spurs hierarchy have already made contingency plans and would make a move for Simeone if Conte leaves at the end of the season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs fans should take reports like this with a pinch of salt. One can argue that Simeone is perhaps the most similar to Conte, both tactically and in terms of the mentality he instils in the squad.

So, on the face of it, the suggestion of the Argentine replacing the Italian makes sense. However, the Tottenham hierarchy seem to be fully behind Conte and I expect them to do what is necessary to tie him down to a new contract.
