Report: Spurs will not stand in the way of first-team regular leaving this summer

Tottenham Hotspur will not stand in the way of Hugo Lloris’ potential exit from the club this summer, according to Football Insider.

Lloris’ season came to an abrupt end when he suffered a muscular injury during the first half of Tottenham’s 6-1 thrashing at Newcastle United towards the end of last month, with Fraser Forster deputising in his absence.

The World Cup winner is attracting interest from abroad with a money-spinning offer from Saudi Arabia while he is also catching the attention of top European clubs.

It is reported that Lloris could triple his current £100,000-a-week salary by moving to a club in Saudi Arabia, but is not currently in a rush to leave the north Londoners but would not want to remain there if he is no longer first-choice goalkeeper (The Athletic).

The 36-year-old has one year left to run on his existing deal with Tottenham having joined the club from Lyon in 2012 for what has proven to be a bargain £11.8million transfer fee (BBC).

Tottenham are believed to be compiling a shortlist of potential successors to Lloris’ number one jersey with Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, Brentford’s David Raya, Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and AC Milan’s Mike Maignan all having been mentioned (Football.London).

SpursWeb Opinion

Tottenham need a complete squad overhaul and adopt a style of football where the goalkeeper is comfortable with the ball at his feet. Unfortunately for Hugo Lloris, football has evolved and he is not adept at passing the ball in the same manner as Allison or Ederson.

He has been a great servant, who has given his prime years to the club and is fully deserving of a testimonial after it appears he has already played his last game in Spurs colours.
