Report: Spurs ‘willing to pay’ club’s asking price for centre-back

Cadena Ser have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to pay Sevilla’s asking price for Jules Kounde despite the North London club not being the centre-back’s preferred destination.

Fabrizio Romano claimed last week that Tottenham were in talks with Kounde’s representatives while La Colina de Nervion have reported that the North London club are ready to make a £50m offer for the 22-year-old.

However, despite Spurs’ approach, multiple sources have indicated (Marca and AS) that the 22-year-old is not overly enthusiastic about the idea of joining the Lilywhites since they are not in the Champions League.

Cadena Ser have now suggested that Sevilla are having trouble getting offers that they deem suitable for Kounde.

The report alleges that the La Liga club are looking for a fee of over €60m (£51.3m) for the French international and could hold on to the player if their demands are not met.

Spurs are said to be ‘very interested’ and ‘willing to pay’ Sevilla’s asking price but it is stated that Kounde wants to move to ‘a major club’ which ‘Tottenham are not at the moment’.

It looks like Paratici might have a challenge on his hands to convince Kounde that a move to Spurs will be the right step for him. With all due respect to Nuno, he does not have anywhere near the same reputation in the game as Mourinho or Pochettino, who in the past played a key role in persuading players to come.
