Report: Spurs winger could re-emerge as target for European giant after failed transfer deal

Steven Bergwijn has re-emerged as a transfer target for Ajax after they failed to land Kamaldeen Sulemana, according to Dutch football journalist Mike Verweij.

Sulemana completed his transfer from FC Nordsjælland to French outfit Rennes yesterday in a deal which is said to be worth €15m (£12.8m) plus a further €5m (£4.2m) in bonus payments (Get Football News France).

The 19-year-old Ghanian had an impressive season in Norway having scored 10 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions, while also providing eight assists (transfermarkt).

Verweij told the Kick-off Oranje podcast that the Eredivisie giants are now likely to add the former PSV player back on their radar.

The Daily Mail reported last month that Ajax held an interest in the Dutch international, but Spurs were not keen on selling and would want to recoup the £27m they paid for him last year.

Bergwijn is likely to be going nowhere this summer with Erik Lamela appearing the most likely to leave given his age and contract situation. Jose Mourinho’s tactical set up did not appear to suit Bergwijn, who is better at attacking the opposition rather than tracking back and defending.
