Report: Spurs winger undergoing medical this morning ahead of £25.8m exit

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Steven Bergwijn is in Amsterdam this morning to complete his medical ahead of his move to Ajax.

Tottenham and Ajax have seemingly been locked in negotiations over Steven Bergwijn for several weeks.

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare stated last week that the talks between the two clubs would accelerate once Spurs complete the signing of Richarlison, and it now appears that Bergwijn’s exit is moving at pace.

Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf earlier this week that Tottenham and Ajax had agreed on a €30m (£25.8m) transfer fee for Bergwijn but still had differences to be ironed out regarding the instalments the fee would be paid over.

However, if Romano’s latest update is to be believed, it now looks like those issues have been resolved and the 24-year-old is finally going to get his wish of joining the Eredivisie giants (De Telegraaf).

The journalist took to social media to reveal that Bergwijn will sign a contract with Ajax until June 2027.

It was clear from about a month or two ago that this deal was likely to go through but the time the negotiations took is concerning. Let’s hope that the sale of Winks, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Emerson, Reguilon and others does not similarly drag on for a number of weeks ahead of the new season.
