Report: Spurs working ’round the clock’ on potential big-name signing

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly pursuing a sensational deal to bring Gareth Bale back to the club before the close of the transfer window.

A report in the Express claims that Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his attacking options before the end of the month and has set his sights on bringing Bale back to Spurs.

It is asserted that Real Madrid have made it clear that they will not be loaning out the Welsh international and so Spurs and Madrid are said to be working on a permanent deal.

While it is revealed that Spurs are working round the clock to complete the deal before deadline day, it is suggested that the forward’s £650,000 a week contract which runs until June 2022 is likely to prove a major obstacle.

However, the Lilywhites are said to be determined to offer the 30-year-old an escape route from Real Madrid in the next few days.

While Bale is said to be Mourinho’s ideal signing, he has also reportedly identified Borussia Dortmund duo Paco Alacer and Mario Gotze as possible alternatives if Spurs fail to land the Welshman.

This deal has no chance of going through unless Bale takes a massive wage cut or Madrid decide to cover a considerable portion of his salary. While Spurs fans can’t help but get excited at the prospect of seeing Bale back in Spurs colours, it remains to be seen if the Welsh superstar has the hunger to succeed at the club now that he has won so many major trophies in his career.
